Payfuture Launches Shopify Integration for India Local Payments

The move reflects how platform-based payment integrations are becoming a practical route for global merchants entering markets where domestic payment rails shape checkout behavior.

Payfuture has integrated with Shopify to allow merchants to offer Indian local payment methods, including Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and NetBanking, through a single connection with Payfuture’s payment app.

The integration is aimed at merchants selling into India’s online retail market without having to build separate connections to local payment rails, banks, or acquiring partners. For international sellers, that can reduce the operational work involved in adding payment methods that Indian consumers already use regularly.

Why local payment methods matter in India

India remains one of the most important ecommerce markets for payment localisation. According to figures cited in the announcement, India’s online retail market is projected to reach USD 150 billion to USD 170 billion by 2027, supported by mobile-first consumer behaviour and trust in domestic payment systems.

UPI has become a central account-based payment method in India, while NetBanking continues to be used for direct bank-based digital transactions. For merchants, supporting these methods can be important because checkout expectations often differ from card-first markets.

Platform integrations lower the market-entry burden

The Shopify integration also shows how ecommerce platforms and payment providers are moving closer together. Instead of negotiating multiple local payment relationships, merchants can increasingly add regional payment methods through a platform-connected payment app.

This is especially relevant in markets where local payment behaviour, regulatory requirements, and operating models differ from those in North America or Europe. Payment localisation can affect checkout completion, compliance readiness, and long-term market access.

Payfuture said the integration forms part of its broader strategy to provide local payment connectivity through established ecommerce platforms and to support merchants expanding into India and other high-growth markets.
